Do not worry about any of this. You can manage all by having a solid business plan, staying focused, learning from successful people and “just doing it!”. You will also need to have in mind the stress management techniques that work best for you. Most importantly, stay firm to the philosophy that more money should come in to your business than you are putting out. If it is a direct sales or multi level marketing company that you choose to get started, find no shame in remembering that last suggestion. The same hold true for any other business idea.

Getting Started In A Work At Home Business, Jobs & Online Marketing

Getting started in a home business or learning how to market online is quite exciting. You will develop the creative freedom, income and time that you desire. You will just need to learn the “ins and outs” of what it takes to get started. Seems like it should be simple to start a business or learn how to market online. It is easy for some. The rest of us will experience the frustrating learning curve and the challenges involved when getting started in any type of business. The positive note is that this will smooth out as you fine tuned your plans are ready to explode your business.

Follow this getting started list before you jump into a business.

Strategic planning is the first step in getting started. This means that you will have to ignore all of the wonderful business options that are coming at you right now. Just slow down. Contain your excitement. Forget about what business option you think that you might want to do and start developing a list of your talents, interests and skills. This is because there are thousands of “sharp shooters“, called gurus, that are ready to hit you with their latest and greatest business choices. This is regardless of whether that business is even right for you or if you have the financing or not. The home business industry and the wonderful World Wide Web can bring any one of us to our knees if not careful. This happens every day! Stay focused on your talents, skills and interests, so that you can choose a business that is right for you.

This is much easier said than done; especially if you are a success driven individual and the gurus start talking about how much money you can make. What you need to keep in mind is that choosing the wrong business wastes money and time. This does not fit with your goals to start a business in order to make more money and gain time freedom. For example, if you do not like working on the computer, then you are not going to enjoy an affiliate marketing business unless you have the capital and ability to recruit people to do the work for you. You will still need to understand the facets of that trade in order to control and grow that business. This will involve learning by either trying it yourself or spending a great deal of time gaining information on the different facets of online marketing. Meanwhile, isn’t it redundant for you to start your business in something that isn’t based on your interests, talents and skills?

Keep in mind that those “sharp shooters” will get you started in the wrong type of business if you are not careful! Go with what you know first – Stick to the list!

This does not mean that you cannot learn a trade because it is a “money maker”. Nor does it infer that you may not end up liking it. The point here is that you will do much better in business that is relative to your interests, skills and talents. You can always build upon all of these once a business is stable, but no intelligent, business minded, individual wants to waste their precious time half heartedly building a niche that is strange to them. People that do build businesses in off industries, will have taken much time or paid someone to research a market for them. This type of person will also have the business plan and capital to hire people that will make it possible for them. They will still have to control the business, but with no intention of working it.

If your interests and skills are in Online Marketing, then the above example would be comparable to someone approaching you to start a party business (like Pampered Chef or Mary Kay). The person that approaches you will not hear that you do not like to cook, get your hands dirty or that you do not want to host parties. That person will just see the talents you have in what you currently do, and want you to join in their business. That person will think that they are doing you a favor because he/she is doing well in that business. Regardless, if you are more suited to online marketing, it is not likely that you will do well in this type of business. Keep that in mind.

This is also why you hear so many people complaining that they are not making money and / or crying the blues that they got scammed in a business; when in fact, had they made their list of interests, talents and skills, and stuck to it, they would make money soon after getting started in their business. They would also have a heck of a good time doing it. Before getting started in home business, finding a work at home job or online marketing business, there are certain things that you need to know and do. The following getting started check list should be of assistance.

It never hurts to try something new, though it does waste time and money to focus on what you know is not meant for you. It will affect what you are already doing well.

Here Is Your Getting Started Check List …

Decide What You Can Do / Cannot Do
(Make the list that was explained at the top of this page)

Contrary to what many business leaders will have you believe, starting a business and marketing online is difficult. Even with the new Web 2.0 strategies there is still a lot to learn and a lot of work before you can even think about outsourcing or hiring. Focus, dedication and organization will be expectations of you from others. The next important factor is choosing the right business module, products, etc. Some find that it is more convenient to get a work at home job rather than being responsible for all.

If you are a person that likes to make decisions, have the time and money to invest, then starting a business might be good for you. If not, you will want to consider a work at home job or keeping your existing job while beginning to develop an online marketing income or network marketing. The point here is that you need to decide what is best for you based on your list of interests, skills and talents. Forget about all of the emails with opportunities. Forget about the companies calling to “interview” you for their home based business. You need to research based on your criteria, and not settle for what seems to be a good business or marketing opportunity.

Research & Planning: You Need To Lay The Groundwork
(The Who, What, Where, When, Why & How Of Getting Started)

Once you have an idea of what type of work at home job or business is good for you, you need to research the options and plan accordingly. Quite simply, “YOU NEED TO HAVE A BUSINESS PLAN!!!”. Even if you are joining a network marketing company or affiliate programs, you need to have your own plan of action. We hear and read this all of the time, but not many follow this advice. This is a HUGE mistake. There is a plan for those who just want a work at home job. There are plans for the different business types. There are plans for marketing online; even for affiliates

DO IT RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING – HAVE A BUSINESS PLAN!

Study Successful People / Get Their Advice If You Can

The most intelligent way to prepare and do well in any industry is to learn from the experiences of successful people. Study what they did to get where they are. Get their guidance if possible. Listen to the advice of successful people while you are making decisions and moving forward in your business plans. YES, this sometimes means having to purchase their books, CDs or attend seminars. The greatest part is that most successful people will share some of their knowledge freely (even if only blog posts and articles). Another excellent move would be to partner with a coach or mentor of your own. This is a person that can become another set of eyes and ears for you. This mentor or coach will probably not end up becoming a business partner, but they will certainly help you along the way. It is their business is to help you become successful in your business. This guidance will help you along.
